Supplied air respirator

From GAWDAwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A supplied air respirator is a piece of personal protective equipment that provides a user with breathable air from an independent source.[1] The source may be a high-pressure compressor (breathable plant air), a low-pressure pump or bottled air in cylinders. Air must be Grade D or better.[2]

Unlike powered air respirators, supplied air respirators do not filter contaminants out of ambient air—rather, they provide clean air from a separate source. They must, therefore, be used when the presence or concentration of contaminants in a confined space cannot be determined.[3]

Supplied air respirator systems are most common for paint spray and coating applications, media blasting (sand blasting) and assembly line welding stations. Supplied air systems generally provide a safer work environment and are more economical for frequent users.[4]
