Suction strainers are used to protect pumps from contaminants that could cause them to fail. Pump suction strainers come in four basic configurations:
- Basket strainers are recommended for use under moderate pressure and temperature conditions.
- Cone strainers (pointed or truncated) are typically used only during startup and then removed.
- Tee type strainers are available in bolted-blind or hinged-cover models.
- Y strainers are ideal for high-pressure and/or high-temperature applications.
