Reciprocating pump

Reciprocating pumps draw liquid into a cylinder through a suction valve on the intake stroke and discharge it under positive pressure through an outlet valve on the discharge stroke. Since the intake is a constant volume, discharge changes only when the speed of the pump is adjusted.[1]
