Plasma cutter

From GAWDAwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A plasma cutter cuts by sending an electric arc through a gas (shop air, nitrogen, argon, oxygen, etc.) that is passing through a constricted opening. This elevates the gas’ temperature enough that it enters the fourth state of matter, plasma. The electrical conductivity of the plasma causes the arc to transfer to the work. The high-speed gas cuts through the molten metal.[1]
