Nitrogen dioxide

Nitrogen dioxide (NO₂)is a toxic gas and is a prominent pollutant in the atmosphere. Along with Nitric oxide, Nitrogen dioxide is present in vehicular exhaust and plays a major role in the formation of photochemical smog.^[1]

Industrially, NO₂ is an intermediate in the generation of Nitric Acid. Many laboratories use a Zero Air Generator to remove Nitrogen dioxide to generate Zero Air that can then be used for zero reference calibration gas.
