Magnetic particle examination
From GAWDAwiki
Magnetic particle examination is a method of detecting cracks at or near the surface in magnetic alloys using a specially designed electro-magnet and a magnetic liquid or powder.[1]
Magnetic particle examination consists of magnetizing the area to be examined, applying prepared magnetic particles to magnetized area and then interpreting resulting particle accumulations. Maximum detectability occurs when the discontinuity is positioned on the surface and perpendicular to the magnetic flux.[2]
