From GAWDAwiki

A magnetic drill, or magnetic drill press, allows operators to drill multiple holes in metal. The base of the drill contains a large electromagnetic magnet which allows the drill to be “clamped” to a work surface, keeping it in place during heavy-duty drilling.[1]
