Locator system

From GAWDAwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

A locator system is an inventory tracking system that allows the user to assign locations to inventory to facilitate greater tracking and the ability to store product randomly. A locator system allows a warehouse to maximize storage space by enabling a storage system based on physical characteristics. Whereas without a locator system units must be stored in some sort of order (i.e., numerical sequence, alphabetical order, product type, vendor name, etc.), with a locator system, products can be stored in any order to best maximize storage space. A warehouse can increase productivity by storing high-demand items in more accessible locations and can separate smaller items. Warehouse management systems (WMS) add functionality to direct movement between locations.[1]
