Krypton is a rare gas, which, along with xenon and neon, accounts for one thousandth of the air in the atmosphere. It is a colorless, tasteless gas that cannot support life. Krypton is difficult to combine with other chemical substances because of its extreme intertness.
Krypton gas is used in lasers to provide desired optic wavelengths for various applications. When used in lasers, krypton is mixed with a halogen, most commonly fluorine, to produce the desired characteristics. These lasers are called excimer lasers.
