Inverter welder

Inverter welders have been on the market since the late seventies. The advantage with an inverter welder compared to the traditional "rectifier welder" is substantially lower weight, lower power consumption, faster welding process responses and easier process control. The principle of the inverter design is to rectify the incoming AC power (50/60HZ)and then "chop up" the DC power to a high frequency (5-100 kHZ). The power is then transformed down to a suitable voltage, rectified again to a suitable welding voltage/current. Because of the high frequency, the transformer used can be much smaller compared to a traditional welding supply with the same power, which explains the lower weight of the inverter welder.[1]
