ISO 14000, or ISO 14000:2004, is a family of quality standards published by ISO. ISO 14000 consists of guidelines related to environmental management systems and supporting standards. Environmental management refers to what an organization does to minimize its harmful effects on the environment. ISO 14000, along with ISO 9000, is one of the organization's best known standards.
Standards
- ISO 14001:2004 provides requirements for an environmental management system. These requirements pertain to identifying and controlling an organization's environmental impact, improving performance and implementing a systematic approach to meeting environmental objectives.
- ISO 14004:2004 provides guidelines for an environmental management system.
- Other standards address specific environmental aspects, such as labeling, performance evaluation, life cycle analysis, communication and auditing.
