Hydrocarbon is an organic chemical compound consisting of hydrogen and carbon in either gaseous, liquid or solid form. The molecular structure of hydrocarbon compounds varies from the simple (methane, a constituent of natural gas) to the very heavy and complex. [1]. Crude oil, natural gas and natural gas condensate are all mixtures of various hydrocarbons, methane being the least complex.[2]
