Food-grade gas

Food-grade gases are used as additives and/or processing aids to ensure compliance with food grade regulations such as the FDA guidelines in the US and the EC directives in EU countries. Some commonly-used food-grade gases include:

• Carbon dioxide (CO₂)
• Nitrogen (N₂)
• Oxygen (O₂)^[1]

Both food-grade gases and industrial-grade gases are 99.97% pure, while scientific-grade gases have a higher purity level.^[2]
