Jump to: navigation, search

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is a U.S. government regulatory agency responsible for ensuring that all foods, medical products and medical equipment are safe and sanitary. The FDA also regulates the communication of product-related information to the public, such as warning labels on certain drugs and nutrition facts on foods.[1]

History

The FDA began in 1906 with the passage of the Federal Food and Drug Act. Initially a part of the Bureau of Chemistry, it has since been a part of a number of government departments before ending up in the Department of Health and Human Services, where it remains today.
