Flat position

When welding is done from the top side of a joint, it is in the flat position if the face of the weld is approximately horizontal. Sometimes referred to as downhand welding. The axis angle can be from 0^o–15^o in either direction from a horizontal surface. Face rotation can be from 150^o–210^o.^[1]
