Ferrous refers to a metal that contains primarily iron, such as steel, stainless steel and cast iron.[1]

In terms of chemistry it is held in reserve for iron as well as the oxidation number of +2 denoted Fe2+. The formula for ferrous oxide is FeO.[2]
