Explosive welding

From GAWDAwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Explosive welding is a solid state welding process where plates are bonded metallurgically by the pressure generated from the detonation of an explosive charge.[1]

Explosive welding is also known as explosive bonding or explosive cladding. Controlled detonations force dissimilar metals into a high-quality, metallurgically bonded joint. The transition joint has high mechanical strength, is ultra-high vacuum tight and can withstand drastic changes in temperature.[2]
