Exothermic cutting
From GAWDAwiki
Exothermic Cutting is the process where a chemical reaction occurs when steel is heated to its kindling temperature and pure oxygen is injected into the molten metal. The common method for exothermic cutting is with a burning bar. A burning bar is a steel tube filled with alloyed steel fuel wires or tubes. A burning bar system consist of a high flow regulator, an oxygen hose and a burning bar holder. Depending on the diameter of the burning bar they use from 20 to 100 cubic feet of oxygen per minute or 1200 to 6000 cubic feet per hour. Burning bars have a tip temperature of approximately 7500 f. Burning bars can be used to cut mild steel, tool steel, stainless steel, cast iron, aluminum, titanium, nickel, copper and brass.[1]
