Ethylene

In term of quantity produced, ethylene is the most important organic chemical. Ethylene is the feedstock in the manufacture of the most important polymer, polyethylene. ^[1]

Ethylene the only plant hormone that is naturally transported as a gas. It is responsible for fruit ripening, growth inhibition, leaf abscission, and aging.

Ethylene is a by-product of kerosene combustion.^[2]
