Electronic product code, or EPC, is the RFID version of the UPC barcode. EPCs provide data regarding the origin and history of an item, along with that item's SKU. An EPC holds more information than a standard barcode, including manufacturer, product, version and serial number. It is the serial number that allows the specific item to be tracked through various stages of the supply chain. All this data is stored on a network (or the Internet), but is made available through the EPC. See also automatic data collection.[1]
