Defect weld

Defect weld is a weld containing one or more defects. ^[1]

By definition, a defect in a weld makes the welded product rejectable. Some discontinuities may be allowed in an acceptable weld, but not a defect.^[2]

Types of Welding Defects

Types of defects in welds include:

• Undercut
• Overlap
• Underfill
• Incomplete joint penetration
• Incomplete fusion^[3]
