Cryogenic

From GAWDAwiki

(Redirected from Cryogenics)
Jump to: navigation, search

A cryogenic material is any material held at very low temperatures. Low temperatures are useful in science for many reasons; not only do most chemical reactions proceed more slowly as the temperature is lowered (and therefore become easier to study), but many properties of materials are temperature-dependent, so studies as a function of temperature may reveal interesting information about bonding and structure. See also cryogenic liquid.[1]

Some common cryogenic materials, also called cryogens, include liquid nitrogen, liquid helium and carbon dioxide.[2]
