Copper-coated wire

From GAWDAwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Copper-coated wire (MIG) has a protective copper coating applied to the wire surface to prevent or slow down rusting of the wire. It is usually applied to steel MIG wire, but is also applicable to TIG rod. Some believe that electrical pick-up is improved by the coppering.[1]

Copper is the standard benchmark for electrical conductivity. It conducts electrical current better than any other metal except silver. Copper is routinely refined to 99.98% purity before it is acceptable for many electrical applications.[2]
