Cladding

Cladding is a relatively thick layer (> 0.04 in.) of one material applied by surface welding to a different material for the purpose of improving corrosion or heat resistance. ^[1]

Cladding can also refer to a protective or insulating layer fixed to the outside of a building or another structure.^[2]
