Auto-darkening filter

From GAWDAwiki

Jump to: navigation, search

Auto-darkening filters are used in welding helmets to prevent users’ eyes from flash damage. When the filter detects the flash of an arc, it immediately darkens. Even when the filter is not darkened, eyes are protected from ultraviolet (UV) and infrared radiation (IR) light.[1]

Some auto-darkening filters are designed for specific types of welding only.[2]
