Argon

Argon is a colorless and odorless monatomic gas with a density relative to air of 1.38. Its chemical symbol is Ar. Argon's most useful property is its total inertness to all substances at all temperatures and pressures. It is most widely used as shielding gas in arc welding.[1]

History

Argon was discovered in 1894 by Lord Raleigh and Sir William Ramsay. The element, which makes up 1% of the earth's atmosphere,is the third noble gas located in period 8.[2]
