nexAir Adds Hydrogen Filling Operations- 7/13/2010Memphis, Tennessee-based nexAir announced the completion of its new hydrogen filling facility at its operations in Memphis. The state-of-the art plant began operations on May 21. According to nexAir president Bill Proctor, it is the only facility of its kind within a 250-mile radius. The hydrogen facility houses a 9,000 gallon hydrogen storage tank, roughly equivalent to 1 million cubic feet, and fills tube trailers, skid paks and HP cylinders. nexAir expects the new hydrogen operations to significantly reduce its distribution costs and create new market opportunities. “From a geographical standpoint, it puts us in a position to serve other distributors as well as suppliers—potentially even some of the larger companies, depending on where their customers are,” says Proctor. “We built the plant with intentions of growing our hydrogen business,” says Chuck Britton, vice president of plant operations at nexAir. “We expect substantial growth in the first year.” The hydrogen facility features remote monitoring through a secure Internet channel. Through the online system, nexAir can monitor tank pressures, liquid levels and even shut down the hydrogen tank remotely.
