Craig Wood Elected GAWDA President

- 9/12/2012

Craig Wood, president of O.E. Meyer Company (Sandusky, OH), was elected president of the Gases and Welding Distributors Association (GAWDA) on September 12 at the association's Annual Convention in Colorado Springs.

781 members and guests were on hand to witness the election. Keeping with tradition, Wood was escorted to the presidential podium by 13 Past Presidents of the association, along with colleagues and friends.

Wood was introduced by his son Eric in an emotional presentation. Eric told the story of his father's life-long interest in welding. He started in the industry at a summer job during college painting cylinders at O.E. Meyer Company, then moved into driving a truck making deliveries and then sales. Considered an expert welder, Wood understood what customers need and want, and parlayed that knowledge into growing sales at O.E. Meyer. In 2004, he was named president of the company's industrial division.

In his acceptance speech, Wood acknowledged his family, his O.E. Meyer colleagues and previous association presidents. He introduced plans for the year and outlined the benefits of volunteering to the 27 first-time Convention attendees in attendance.

Wood thanked members for the opportunity to serve as 2012-13 President of GAWDA. "To have this opportunity, to stand before you as your President is truly an honor and a humbling experience," he said. Attendees responded with rousing applause and welcome.
