Arc Weld Inc. Founder Remembered

- 7/24/2012

Dennis Jenkins, 68, was president of Arc Weld Inc. in Corydon, Indiana. Mr. Jenkins believed in conducting business on a personal level and treating people well. “The people were more important to him than anything else,” says wife Kathy Jenkins, secretary and treasurer at Arc Weld Inc. “It was not about selling the customer a product, but servicing what they bought and being there whenever needed.” Employees at Arc Weld saw Mr. Jenkins as a friend; one employee fondly recalls Mr. Jenkins greeting him at the door every morning.
Mr. Jenkins got his start in the industry as a driver for a distributor in Kansas City and ultimately worked his way up to a position in sales. In 1983, he went in search of his own distributorship and purchased Airco’s facility in Louisville, Kentucky. He sold the business in 1986 and went on to found Arc Weld Inc. in 1988.
Along with his wife, Kathy, Mr. Jenkins worked alongside his son Mark, vice president, and daughter Julie, office manager. Another son, Brian, owns a neighboring automotive detailing business.
Mr. Jenkins loved golfing and restoring old cars. He owned a 1931 Ford and loved to show customers photos of the restoration in progress. Nearly complete, the car will be finished by a friend, and the family hopes to have it fully restored in time for an open house in September.
