According to the Wall Street Journal, prices of ethane, propane and other natural gas liquids are dropping due to a mismatch between supply and demand. Ethane at a Mont Belvieu, Texas trading hub, which serves as a traditional pricing benchmark, sold for 28.4 cents per gallon on June 26, down from a peak average of 89 cents in October. Propane at the same location was down from $1.47 a gallon in October, selling for 79.65 cents. These weak prices may last for several years, according to market observers.
