Welding Inspector Classes Filling Up

- 1/27/2012

Amidst a well documented welder shortage, the  Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust (IMPACT)  reports promising signs, as welding inspector certification courses are filling up well in advance of the registration deadline. According to the Ironworker Management Progressive Action Cooperative Trust, Ironworkers who are trained in welding inspection are of great value and provide a significant cost savings for contractors. “Ironworkers who pass the test and become a Certified Welding Inspector bring a much better understanding of the entire welding process, metallurgy and welder training,” says Brian Colombo, Iron Workers apprenticeship coordinator

The enrollment bump is a positive sign for the welding industry in the U.S.. Previously, California’s Department of Transportation said that the welder shortage has forced the state to hire foreign workers to complete welding jobs such as the San-Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge.
