Praxair will build, own and operate an energy efficient cryogenic air separation unit to supply oxygen for the local mining industry in Long Harbor, Newfoundland, Canada. The plant will have a capacity of 390 tons per day, and is expected to start up in mid 2013. Oxygen is used in the mining process as a primary input in the pressure leaching process. The oxygen reacts with the contained sulphur and dissolves nickel into solution, according to Don Stevens, general manager at a processing plant in Long Harbor.
