The Van Wert County, Ohio, Hot Air Festival is looking to break the world record for most single independently held helium balloons released at once. The goal is to have 3,000 people carry 25,000 balloons to form the shape of a flag. The balloons will be release after the national anthem plays. Event coordinator Jerry Mazur says, “We made application with the Guinness Book of World Records to do an event. It has already passed through the first process in the States.” The three-day festival is being resurrected in 2012, having last run in 1998.
