HeadlinesAcetylene Torch Featured on Album Cover- 3/5/2010It seems a bit apropos that, on the cover of her most recent album — “The Calcination of Scout Niblett” — the English singer-songwriter waves to the camera while holding an acetylene torch. Not only is it the first time in her career that, on an album cover, she's acknowledged the camera; it's also notable for the torch itself, an odd choice of portable lighting that nevertheless serves her self-exploration well on the CD's 11 songs. Introspection, Niblett told The Daily Times during a recent interview, was very much on her mind during the making of the new record, which was released in January. Saturday night (March 6), the diminutive singer-songwriter with the waifish voice will share her discoveries — along with others that have endeared her to a loyal following over the years — during a show at The Pilot Light in Knoxville's Old City. For this record, I was looking at myself in contrast to albums before, where I've been thinking about other people and how they affect me,” she said. “This one was about looking at who I was, and sometimes that meant kind of dealing with these things I found while trying to be as objective as I could.
