Tiger Woods will construct an oxygen therapy room in his home near Jupiter Island. Plans also include a practice golf course and a series of pools. Many athletes have used hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) to enhance the treatment of sports-related injuries. Woods himself has received oxygen therapy in a hyperbaric chamber. The use of hyperbaric chambers in the treatment of chronic degenerative health problems related to atherosclerosis, stroke, diabetic ulcers and wound healing is becoming more common.

Doctors are also studying the effects of using oxygen therapy to aid children with autism. HBOT is continuously being evaluated to determine what treatments should be covered by insurance. Currently, Medicare approves the use of at least 15 conditions and the list is growing. HBOT has also been successful in saving the lives of infected and wounded horses. There are two types of hyperbaric chambers. A monoplace chamber accommodates one individual at a time; a multiplace chamber allows for the treatment of multiple patients at one time. Portable hyperbaric chambers are also available for home use.
