HeadlinesStimulus Funds Upstate NY Welders' Training- 2/23/2010Job Development offices in Genesee, Livingston, Orleans and Wyoming counties in Upstate New York received $1.5M in federal economic stimulus funds in March 2009. It was immediately put to use. The stimulus money enabled Genesee, Orleans and Wyoming counties to provide training or re-training for more than 200 adults in the past 12 months, officials in the 3 counties said. The grant dollars went out the door as quickly as they came in, all of it used to improve the skills of job seekers, officials said. Heating, ventilation and air conditioning repair and service is another area with potential for job growth. That's because of a renewed emphasis on energy efficiency and green technology, the job development directors said. Another area that's showing employment potential is welding. Gage's staff trained 76 people in the past year under the stimulus program. Every person who completed course work in the medical field or welding landed a job, said Scott Gage, director of the Genesee County Career Center. Read the full story at: thedailynewsonline.com
