Researchers at the University of Leeds, in Leeds, UK, developed a process for making hydrogen from used vegetable oils. The process uses nickel oxide to self-generate some of the heat needed for the normally highly energy-consuming process. This sustainable method makes use of recycled vegetable oils from restaurants and bars to produce hydrogen that could be suitable for purposes such as hydrogen fuel.
