Shell Oil Company has selected a site in Pennsylvania to build a new ethane cracker, which will convert ethane from Marcellus Shale natural gas liquids into chemicals such as ethylene. Ohio and West Virginia had also made strong efforts to attract the plant to their states, introducing various tax incentives related to natural gas infrastructure. The ethane cracker is expected to attract up to $16 billion in private investment and create thousands of construction jobs.
