Scientists at Massachusetts Institute of Technology has developed an efficient method of extracting oxygen from water using common chemicals and small amounts of electricity. The researchers added cobalt and phosphates with water and then inserted a conductive electode, causing a stream of oxygen bubbles to appear. The scientists say the discovery could be a breakthrough in the ability to use oxygen as an energy source.
