Inspection Alert: June 2-4

- 5/1/2009
The Commercial Vehicle Safety Alliance (CSVA)’s annual Roadcheck inspection program will take place June 2-4, 2009. Roadcheck is the world’s largest targeted enforcement program for commercial vehicles, with an average of 14 trucks or buses inspected each minute from Canada to Mexico during this 72-hour period.

Each year, approximately 10,000 CVSA-certified local, state, provincial and federal inspectors at 1,500 locations across North America perform the truck and bus inspections. CVSA sponsors Roadcheck with participation by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration, Canadian Council of Motor Transport Administrators, Transport Canada and the Secretariat of Communications and Transportation (Mexico).

Last year, 94.7% of drivers passed the Roadcheck inspection, with 5.3% placed out of service. 97.6% of hazmat carriers passed inspection, with 2.4% placed out of service.

June is definitely a busy time of year for inspections, but as long as our drivers are properly trained and know their jobs, they have nothing to worry about. We hold monthly safety meetings to review regulations with them, and we send them out on the road with all the proper manifests and paperwork. Ongoing refresher training is important in keeping them up-to-date.
