GAWDA Gives Back $174,444 - 9/10/2012
Two Colorado Springs nonprofits received checks in the amount of $87,222 each. Partners In Housing provides homeless families the opportunity to achieve self-sufficiency through supportive services and transitional housing. In accepting the donation, Executive Director Mary Stegner thanked GAWDA members for their generosity and introduced a woman whose life has been changed by the organization. Kelly, a victim of domestic violence and a mother of four, had the audience in her full grasp when she told her story. She thanked GAWDA members and said, "You are helping lives such as my own to become better."
PEAK Parent Center provides training, information and technical assistance to equip families of children with disabilities with strategies to advocate successfully for their children. In accepting the donation, Executive Director Barbara Buswell said how honored the organization was to have been chosen. The donation is the largest amount the organization has ever received. PEAK showed a video of its work, which contained photos of children holding signs reading "Thank You, GAWDA" and what the donation means to them.
