The Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration will change the period for calculating driver crash rates and out-of-service rates for deciding hazmat permit eligibility. Calculations are currently based on the calendar year and will be adjusted to the federal fiscal year, October 1 to September 30, as of the 2011-2012 fiscal year. The change will provide motor carriers three months to preview crash and out-of-service rates.
