Distributors Focus on Training

- 7/31/2012

Over the next few weeks, the world’s best athletes come together to compete in the 2012 Olympics. In order to reach this level of competition, athletes spend thousands of hours dedicated to training. Much like these Olympic athletes, businesses must dedicate time to training in order to develop a culture of safety and efficiency. At Tech Air in Danbury, CT, the company’s director of safety and compliance has developed a new style of training that is elevating performance throughout the organization. The company’s training regimen is explored in the Summer 2012 issue of Welding & Gases Today, the leading magazine for the gases and welding equipment industry.

Through Tech Air’s “Train the Trainer” program, Director of Safety and Compliance Marilyn Dempsey works with designated employees to prepare them to become the trainers for their departments. “The program allows us to scale our training efforts as we grow, moving from one trainer to several. It takes advantage of the specialized knowledge and experience of employees across the company, and helps preserve the human element of training,” says Dempsey.

When it comes to selecting an employee to become the trainer, Dempsey says the most experienced person does not always make the best trainer. “A trainer must be energetic and have the ability to connect with co-workers. An interest and a passion for the job go a long way in passing this same enthusiasm on to other employees. These qualities are all important in a trainer.”

To learn more about how Tech Air is leveraging the experience of its existing employees to improve company-wide training efforts, read “Tech Air Takes Training To The Next Level” at Welding & Gases Today Online.
