The Department of Transportation banned use of cell phones and electronic devices for commercial drivers hauling hazardous materials. The ban specifically targets text messaging by truck drivers. The measure was announced at the agency’s Distracted Driving Summit and will be effective 30 days from the date it appears in the Federal Register, which is estimated to be the third week of October.
