Chinese Trade Down 20%

China’s imports and exports in March 2009 marked a decrease of 20.9% compared to March 2008. China’s exports in March 2009 were $90.29 billion (17.1% less than March exports a year earlier), which is an improvement over February’s exports (down 25.7% year-on-year). The country’s imports last month dived 25.1% year-on-year to $71.73 billion.

Although imports and exports are significantly lower than a year ago, China’s General Administration of Customs points out that March 2009’s year-on-year decrease was less than February’s, marking improvement in the country’s foreign trade.
