Carbon Dioxide Offers Botox Alternative - 7/9/2010
Cosmetic surgeons are now turning to carbon dioxide to fight cellulite and smooth wrinkles. The treatment involves the injection of gaseous carbon dioxide under the skin to stimulate blood flow to tighten skin.
A study at the University of Siena (Siena, Italy) followed 48 women over six sessions of carbon dioxide injections over a span of three weeks. On average, the women experienced a loss of 3cm around their stomach area and a loss of 2cm around their thighs.
Proponents of the surgery consider it a natural alternative to Botox. The procedure takes under five minutes and injections are painless. Some surgeons are reluctant to apply the procedure, saying that more research needs to be conducted looking into the long-term effects of the treatment.
