CGA Safety Award Winners

Chantilly, VA -. Each year, the Compressed Gas Association (CGA) pays tribute to its members’ dedication to making the industry safer for employees, distributors and the public. The following awards were announced during CGA’s Annual Meeting of the Members on April 21, 2009. Fleet Safety Excellence Awards Sponsored by Praxair, these awards recognize outstanding safety performance among bulk and cylinder truck delivery fleets. The award is based on CGA member companies’ total Vehicle Accident Frequency Rates. There are four categories for this award: two for bulk vehicle fleets and two for cylinder vehicle fleets. The winners are:

Bulk Gas Transportation
Cylinder Gas Transportation
  • Less than 3 million miles: Western International Gas and Cylinders
  • More than 3 million miles: Linde North America

Leonard Parker Pool Safety Awards Sponsored by Air Products and Chemicals, these awards are given in memory of Leonard Parker Pool, founder and former CEO of Air Products and Chemicals. The awards are presented annually to participating CGA member companies that have recorded the greatest improvements in safety performance during the previous two years, based upon the total recordable case incidence rates as defined by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). The award’s three divisions are based on employee exposure hours. The winners are:
Chart Industries Award The Chart Industries Award for significant and dedicated service to CGA is presented to an individual who best exemplifies the character, commitment and excellence prevalent in CGA member companies’ volunteers. It is awarded to an individual who consistently and tirelessly takes on the responsibility to uphold and further the mission of the CGA: to develop and promote safety standards and safe practices for the industrial gas industry. The award recipient is Patrick F. Murphy of Linde North America.

Charles H. Glasier Safety Award Sponsored by American Air Liquide Holdings, this award is given in memory of Charles H. Glasier, a leader in the industry, strong supporter of safety, former CGA chairman (1980) and active participant in CGA for more than 40 years. The award is presented annually to an individual in recognition of safety leadership in the industrial gas industry. The award recipient is Rob Early of Praxair.

Environmental Recognition Awards Sponsored by Linde North America, this program enables CGA to identify and share good environmental practices as well as promote environmental awareness and improvements within companies and the industry. The awards are presented annually to deserving individuals, teams or facilities that conduct activities meeting identified “environmental excellence” criteria. Awards are given to projects of the following companies:
  • Air Products and Chemicals (two projects)
  • FIBA Technologies
  • Linde North America
  • Matheson Tri-Gas
  • Praxair (four projects)
