Oscar de Paula Bernardes was elected to the Praxair Board of Directors, effective July 26, 2010. Bernardes is the former chief executive officer of Bunge International, a global agribusiness and food company now headquartered in White Plains, New York.

“We are pleased to add Oscar to our board with his wide-ranging executive and board experience,” says Praxair Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Steve Angel. “In particular, Oscar is a global citizen whom we expect to provide valuable advice and counsel as we increase our presence in emerging markets.”

Bernardes was CEO of Bunge International from 1997 to 1999. Since 2003, Bernardes has been a managing partner at Integra Assessoria em Negocios Ltda. in Sao Paulo, Brazil, which provides consulting services on financial restructuring and governance as well as interim management in turnaround situations. Prior to joining Bunge, he was senior vice president and managing partner for Latin America with Booz Allen and Hamilton, Inc. and prior to that, operations director in Brazil for Ferro Corporation. He earned a bachelor of science degree in chemical engineering from Federal University in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
