Despite high unemployment rates, there are many opportunities for skilled workers such as welders, due to a workforce shortage. Air Products CEO and President John McGlade says he is worried that the shortage of skilled workers will only continue to get worse as funding for vocational education programs gets cut. Air Products hires 360 skilled workers a year and employs around 4,000 skilled workers in all. According to McGlade, skilled positions can remain unfilled for a year.
