4-Mile LNG Pipe Planned

Fall River, MA – A four-mile cryogenic pipeline to bring liquefied natural gas upriver being is being planned for Fall River, Massachusetts. If constructed, it would be the longest LNG pipeline in the world.

The planned pipeline is the result of Weaver's Cove Energy's desire for a LNG farm. The pipeline would solve the problem of ship navigation, as LNG ships would not have to dock at the onshore facility. Ships could stop at a platform miles away and deliver their cargo through the pipeline.

Despite criticisms, Weaver President Gordon Shearer maintains that ultra-insulated double-walled "pipe-in-a-pipe" construction means that LNG can be safely moved up to six miles without there being a problem with it beginning to boil off because of thermal radiation or friction-creating heat.
